Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire tricked his wife into thinking he had spelled their baby son’s name wrong on his birth certificate – as a joke.

Prankster Maguire left wife Jennifer Meyer stunned by giving her a fake copy of the birth certificate with son Otis’s name spelt Oatis.

He filmed the moment to capture her shocked reaction – then shared the footage on a US chat show.

Stunned Jennifer is seen telling Tobey: “O-A-T? It’s O-T-I-S. Are you crazy? O-A-T-I-S? You spelt his name wrong!”

She puts her hand over her face in disbelief and asks: “You spell our child’s name wrong on his birth certificate?”

Tobey told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres: “I can’t believe she bought it because I gave it to her and I just started laughing.

“Eventually, I told her.”

But the joke was on the Pleasantville star after cheeky DeGeneres presented the basketball fan with an LA Lakers outfit for six-month-old Otis – with the baby boy’s name spelled O-A-T-I-S on the back.

But to his relief, she revealed that the name peels off to show the correct spelling underneath.
